L'OFFICIEL - César Malfi fait rayonner l’art à Nice

L'OFFICIEL - César Malfi brings art to Nice

Originally from Nice, César Malfidano has already produced more than thirty works in just a year and a half. From Place Massena to Château de Crémat, from private beaches to hotel rooftops, from St Raphaël to Roissy via Mexico with Oaxaca, you have probably already seen César Malfi's signature.

A law student, his path seemed mapped out until he obtained his diploma to become a tax specialist. But since he was fifteen, an unfortunate desire to paint walls has emerged from the young man from Nice.

The art of capturing the feeling of beauty

It is after traveling that César's initiatory journey brings him back to his love for the transmission of art. More precisely for Antiquity and the Italian Renaissance. Street art encompasses multiple societal subjects and the street is the medium. César innovates this medium by proposing to take timeless works - usually in private collections - out of their museums, to give everyone the opportunity to see them and learn to appreciate them. Thus, he becomes the guarantor that classical art continues to radiate its virtues through time.

One of his latest frescoes: "Lovely Tension" at the Saint-Jean d'Angely Campus perfectly illustrates his desire to match street art x classical art, reminding us of the nostalgia of student flirtations.

Art where you least expect it

For several months, César has been experimenting with new places, in a quest to create social links. And this desire to make art accessible to all goes further. Exit the tourist places and university centers that guarantee a relentless flow. It was not only necessary to transform living spaces into unique works of art, but also to work on the way to capture the eye.

César created the sublime Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer, on the CCAS reception center (14 avenue du XVème corps – Nice). Then in collaboration with the Fondation de Nice, he decorated the walls of the men's stop at the port, with The Three Graces by Raphael and that of the women with The Man with the Red Turban by Jan van Eyck. Three symbols carefully chosen according to the place: which transmit the values of the work to people in difficulty.

By emphasizing these analogies, César Malfi makes art shine in places that would not, at first glance, have attracted attention. To be part of a logic of proximity with the associative fabric, the artist organized last October, a participatory fresco in the Moulins district.

With the ADAM association, César wants to unite young people and create commitment around this new work. This collaborative fresco has generated listening, mutual aid and cohesion with all the actors in the neighborhood.

It is at 2 avenue Martin Luther-King that you can discover the fresco of the Goddess Nikaïa. A nod to the etymology of the city of Nice which found its origins in the name of the Greek goddess, known as "the victorious". Values of ambition and positivity that make you want to undertake and which above all put women back at the heart of current events.

In the coming months, César will exhibit his works at the Cimiez Archaeology Museum and will release a collaboration with an emblematic pastry shop in the city.

The idea is not only to create a new type of street art, it is also to make them meeting places between the curious, the novices, the lovers of the sublime and to share this freedom to see.”
