FRANCE INFO - Street artist César Malfi creates a giant 1500 m² fresco
120 meters long and 12 meters high, this XXL work is undoubtedly one of the largest ever created in France.
Perched on his gondola, César Malfi is finalizing a portrait of Jean Cocteau. One of the four characters he chose to represent on one of the facades of this giant hangar, for their connection with the history of Fréjus. A work called Fréjus l'Intrépide
" To convey this idea of the intrepid Fréjus, I first called upon Napoleon, who landed in Fréjus in 1799 (on his return from Egypt) ; we have Julius Caesar, who was one of the founders of the city. Finally, we have Jean Cocteau who created the chapel (Chapelle Notre Dame de Jérusalem ); and we will finish with Roland Garros, who flew from here for his first crossing of the Mediterranean ," says the artist from Nice.
An order from the tourist office
Bringing this industrial hangar, located in the heart of the Nature Base created in 2007 on the site of the former naval air base, back to life was the goal of the Fréjus tourist office, which approached César Malfi. The goal is for this hangar to become a tourist attraction, for people to come and discover this fresco, César's work, and to wonder about these faces, these looks, explains Axel Aldeguer of the tourist office.
A giant work that extends over 1500 m², making it one of the largest street art frescoes ever created in France. It should be completed by the beginning of May, and equipped with an augmented reality device, which will offer visitors an immersion in the creative universe of César Malfi. The official inauguration will take place on May 24.
